How to make German Rice Pudding:

(1) For the Rice Pudding

In a small pot, bring 500 ml of milk to a boil with 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 packet of bourbon vanilla sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add the rice, briefly bring it to a boil, then let it simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Allow the rice to simmer until the desired consistency is achieved and the rice grains are soft. If necessary, add more milk.

(2) Plate and Serve the Rice Pudding

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Once the rice is cooked and has reached the desired consistency, distribute the rice pudding into bowls and sprinkle it with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. The rice pudding can be served both warm and cold.

Some Recipe Tips:

Type of Rice: Use high-quality Arborio rice for the best creamy consistency. Alternatively, experiment with other short- to medium-grain rice varieties.

Vanilla Bean: Enhance the vanilla flavor by using a fresh vanilla bean. Slice it lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add both the seeds and the pod to the milk.

Slow Cooking: Achieve better milk absorption and a creamier consistency by allowing the rice to simmer slowly. Take your time and stir occasionally.

Sugar Adjustment: Tailor the sweetness to your liking by tasting the rice during cooking and adjusting the sugar accordingly. Some may prefer a sweeter flavor, while others may opt for less sweetness.

Toppings and Garnishes: Experiment with a variety of toppings, such as fresh fruit (berries, apple slices), roasted nuts (almonds, walnuts), or even a lightly sweetened fruit sauce.
