Brigadeiros are named after Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, a Brazilian Air Force officer who ran for president in 1945. The sweet became popular during his campaign, and it is now a beloved treat enjoyed by people of all ages in Brazil. Brigadeiros are often served at birthdays, weddings, and other festive occasions, and they come in various flavors and coatings, providing a delicious and customizable dessert option.
Ingredients you will need for this recipe:
- 1 can (397 g) sweetened condensed milk
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon butter
- a pinch of salt
- chocolate sprinkles

How to make Brigadeiro:

(1) Prepare the Ingredients
Measure out all the ingredients before starting. This will make the cooking process smoother.
(2) Cooking the Brigadeiro Mixture
In a medium-sized, non-stick saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, stir in 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, add a pinch of salt, and incorporate 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir until everything is evenly combined.
Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring continuously to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pan. This should take about 10-15 minutes.
(3) Consistency Check
To check if the mixture is ready, run a spatula through the middle of it. If the mixture holds its shape and doesn’t immediately fill the gap, it’s ready.
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. You can transfer it to a plate to speed up the cooling process.
(4) Shape Brigadeiros
Grease your hands with a little butter to prevent sticking. Take small portions of the cooled mixture and roll them into small balls, each about 2 cm in diameter.
(5) Coat with Chocolate Sprinkles & Enjoy!
Roll each Brigadeiro in chocolate sprinkles, ensuring an even coating. Place the Brigadeiros in small paper cups or on a plate. They are now ready to be enjoyed!

Some Recipe Tips:
Stored at Room Temperature: Brigadeiros are typically good for about 1 to 2 weeks when stored at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Keep them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
Stored in the Refrigerator: If you prefer a firmer texture, you can refrigerate Brigadeiros. When stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container, they can last for up to 2 to 3 weeks.
