Fluffy donuts – easy to make yourself! Whether with sugar, powdered sugar, or chocolate glaze – homemade donuts are a delight for any occasion. They are perfect for parties, children’s birthdays, or celebrations like Carnival and New Year’s Eve! Freshly fried and decorated to your liking, they taste simply heavenly.

Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour or bread flour
- 250 ml lukewarm milk
- 80 g sugar
- 1 packet dry yeast (7 g)
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 80 g soft butter
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- neutral oil for frying

Directions:
1. Prepare the yeast dough: In a small bowl, mix milk with 1 tbsp sugar. Stir in yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
2. Knead the dough: Combine flour, remaining sugar, egg, egg yolk, salt, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Add yeast-milk mixture and butter, then knead into a smooth, elastic dough (10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer).
3. Let the dough rise: Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the donuts: Roll out dough on a floured surface (1 cm thick). Cut out large circles, then remove the center with a smaller cutter. Alternatively, shape filled donuts without a hole.
5. Let the donuts rest: Place donuts on floured parchment paper, cover, and let them rest for another 30 minutes.
6. Frying: Heat oil to 160–170°C. Fry donuts in batches, about 1 minute per side, or until golden brown.7. Decorating: Coat with sugar, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, or dip in chocolate glaze.

Recipe Tips:
Storage: Donuts are best enjoyed fresh. Stored in an airtight container, layering with parchment paper, the donuts will stay fresh for about 1–2 days. Let chocolate-glazed donuts set fully before stacking.
Decoration Ideas – Get creative with toppings: Dust with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Dip in melted chocolate and add colorful sprinkles. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with chopped nuts. Coat with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and lemon juice (feel free to add food coloring for a fun twist). Decorate with melted white chocolate and freeze-dried berries (you can also mix in food coloring into the melted white chocolate for a playful touch).
Filled donuts: Prefer donuts without a hole? Fill them after frying with jam, vanilla custard, or chocolate cream. Simply poke a small hole with a piping bag and pipe in your favorite filling.
